Meet the Team

“OUR BEGINNINGS WERE HUMBLE”​
​Business owners Ben Atanga and Tom French began Stretchworkz in 2014, working out of a small office of a shared suite in Takoma Park, MD. “We used to write prices on a whiteboard,” laughed French. “Obviously, we’ve grown a little, but we work very hard to keep it personal and comfortable.”

Now occupying studio space and gym locations in Maryland and DC, Stretch Workz grown from the small office in Tacoma Park, MD. Atanga and French lead over a dozen stretch-pros between the three locations. “We have a great team,” said Atanga, ‘knowledgeable and friendly. With degrees in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, sports medicine, or certified personal trainers, our stretchers are very personable and understand your bodies needs.

Julia Smith

Julia Smith is a recent graduate of Temple University where she majored in Athletic Training and also was a member of Temples dance team. She is a certified yoga instructor and teaches group and private yoga lessons. She became a stretch pro to help people realize how capable they are if they took care of thier bodies. Julia resides in Brandywine, MD with her dogs (Poodle, Frenchie, Golden Doodle)

Phil Stack

Phil was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He obtained his B.S degree Athletic Training from University of Illinois. Phil has 15 years experience working in physical therapy/health care field. He was also an athletic trainer for the women's basketball team at University of Illinois. In his free time, Phil enjoys reading and playing the guitar.

Rachel "Itty bitty" Miller was born and raised right here in our nations capital. She is a graduate of Bowie Stet university where she received her B.S degree in Psychology. Rachel brings a lot of professional bodywork experience to the table. See below....

Rachel is also a professional Natural Olympian bodybuilder and competes in several shows a year often taking placing top 3. In her free time she enjoys working out, reading and traveling.

Stefon was born and raised in Indian Head, Maryland. He graduated from Frostburg State University with a degree in Exercise Science. He also holds a certification as a Master Personal Trainer as well as a flexibility specialist. Stefon currently lives in Indian Head with his girlfriend and 2 dogs (Toy Fox Terriers) In his free time, Stefon enjoys playing sports, bike riding and working out.

Tom French is a true Renaissance Man. An educator, a musician, an author, a composer, an artist, now Tom delves into the scientific, with anatomy and stretch therapy. An avid cyclist and fitness enthusiast, Tom became a NASM certified personal trainer when he retired from teaching -- soon thereafter, he stumbled into stretching, literally, when an injury helped him discover a passion that has changed his life. In the past two years, Tom has earned an advanced certification in the Stretch Zone method, as well of a certification in active-isolated stretching (AIS) with the legendary Aaron Mattes. Tom lives in DC's Brightwood neighborhood with his husband and many dogs.
